Future perspectives for breast conservation treatment: science & art

There are two components to breast conservation treatment (BCT): science and art. Science involves statistical interrogation of outcomes between a limited number of treatment strategies. For the surgeon, ‘art’ comprises integration of available clinical information that leads to decision making with respect to operative techniques applied to complete the surgical phase of treatment.
