Nipple sparing mastectomy: indications and reconstruction
It is a great pleasure to present the most recent special issue of Gland Surgery focusing on nipple sparing mastectomy and its implications for the future of breast surgery. With the advent of NSM and skin sparing mastectomy, the patient currently has many options for both treatment and reconstruction.
In this issue, we will explore the history of mastectomy, the risks associated with genetic mutations, indications and risks for nipple sparing mastectomy, techniques of mastectomy, the evaluation of skin postmastectomy, the evidence for the use of NSM, the reconstructive options including autologous and implant-based reconstruction and the use of fat grafting for these patients.
The authors have been selected from a wide variety of both countries and specialties. This issue of Gland Surgery explores a subject which has been very controversial for many years but now is becoming more common place throughout the world.
I believe this issue will delight the student, the experienced, and the curious and benefit both experts in breast and reconstructive surgery as well for academics throughout the whole world.
